Teen Gothic

Hey guys. I’ve noticed I’ve been kind of mostly listening to the same goth bands for a while, & I’d like to branch out a bit.

The goth bands I listen to most are: Bloody dead & sexy, Bauhaus, virgin prunes, the wake, sex gang children, two witches, nosferatu, the shroud, screaming dead, switchblade symphony, 45 grave, 1919, 13th chime, ex-voto, the Danse society, plastique noir, merciful nuns, ghosting, gene loves jezebel, the March violets, she past away (edit: also corpus delicti)

My taste is kind of all over the place lmao so I’m not sure if that tells you anything. Buttt I’ve basically only been listening to these same bands for like the past year. So if y’all could give me some bands to listen to (and maybe specific songs ?) that y’all may think I’ll like, that would be wonderful

Does anyone have recommendations for darkwave bands with a similar atmosphere to Selofan? They've been one of my favourite bands for ages and I feel like I haven't really heard anything similar, I guess I'm mostly looking for stuff with a similar kind of monotonous tone of singing and a lead singer with a low voice, ominous atmosphere if that makes sense (I feel like a lot of goth music has a sad atmosphere but I think Selofan is often more ominous and threatening kind of?) I also really like the buzzing background instrumentals that are particularly in their earlier albums.

Just wanna start getting into goth music as I’ve been into goth fashion for about two years, here are my overall favourite bands:

The Birthday Party, The Cure, Soundgarden, Cocteau Twins, Bôa, My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, That one not goth band with Peter Steele that I cannot write because it’s infamous

This has been one of my favorite albums since its release to just chill to at home or while gaming.

I've recently started looking for more music in this vein (I recall there being a ton back in the 90s) but I cannot for the life of my find anything now that sounds like this album, so here I am, consulting the spiders of the interwebs.

So, the first time I heard goth music, was in 2011. It was like a sudden kick in stomach. Like magic. Like a lightning strike. Like an orgasm. It was so good, it became the main genre I used to listen to for next several years. I used to know many bands, old, new, famous, obscure, in different languages etc. It inspired me to write poetry. Whenever I listened to it, it would make me feel great.

Than a <mental illness> happened and I did a break.

Now I'm trying to return into listening goth music agaim and while I still like it, it's not THE MUSIC anymore. It's just good. One of the many other good music genres. Not the OH MY GOD IT'S SO GOOD I WANT TO LISTEN TO IT FOR THE ETERNITY music it used to be for me. And it makes me sad. Its like the fairytale has gone. Is there any way I can bring back those feelings and emotions?

*by goth music I mostly mean goth rock,but I enjoy deathrock sometimes too

I've realized we don't have many goth collectable figures related to bands and high end quality sculptured figures of bands, compared to other genres. Do you think it would be a good idea to help make this happen of course in a way that doesn't seem overly commercial or misrepresenting anything ? If anything, it could be through a more smaller company or person with agreements made to ensure that it doesn't go in the wrong direction.

I think it would be interesting to see a series of detailed figures or dolls or miniature toys not just of the iconic groups but members of numerous band across genres including batcave, darkwave etc given that this toy trend has been a thing for 15 or so years now and for an an affordable price.

Any thoughts?
